On 21 March we celebrate Global Shading Day, a worldwide movement that advocates the control of heat and light to create healthier, more sustainable and energy efficient spaces.
Since its inception by the European Solar Shading Organisation (ES-SO), Global Shading Day has expanded rapidly, attracting participants from across Europe and beyond.
In Spain, it is the Spanish Association of Shading and Dynamic Solar Control (AESSO), of which we are founding members, that is driving this movement, which underlines the growing importance of effective solar protection as a simple but effective solution:
- Passive cooling: By controlling heat and light, solar shading reduces reliance on air conditioning, reducing energy consumption and costs.
- Comfort and well-being: Adequate solar shading ensures a more comfortable indoor environment, minimises glare and improves productivity.
- Sustainability: Intelligent solar shading systems contribute to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, helping to meet global climate targets.
This 2025, Global Shading Day marks its third edition, with the launch of a new website - www.globalshadingday. com - a one-stop centre dedicated to raising global awareness of the critical role of sun protection in sustainable living.
Global Shading Day 2025 is more than just an event: it is a call to action for governments, architects, engineers and individuals to integrate solar shading into their daily lives and long-term planning. Join in!
